Rubrics for Assessment Evaluation

The following rubrics are provided as templates for evaluating an assessment that can be adapted to your specific domain and learning objectives.

The first rubric is a qualitative evaluation of a learner's assessment relative to the author's reference assessment, and the second is a quantitative evaluation of the same. The third rubric is for evaluating the quality of an activity author's reference assessment relative to the intended learners' level of ability. And finally, the fourth rubric is for evaluating a reference assessment relative to its intended learning objectives.

Coverage Most if not all of the reference assertions are present Many of the reference assertions are present Some of the reference assertions are present Few if any of the reference assertions are present
Accuracy Most if not all assertions are accurate Many assertions are accurate Some assertions are accurate, but several are not Few if any assertions are accurate
Support for Assertions Most if not all assertions are supported accurately Many assertions are supported accurately Some of the assertions are supported accurately, but several are not Few if any assertions are supported accurately
Conclusion The conclusion is correct The conclusion is correct, but is stated with less precision The correct conclusion is described, but not stated The conclusion is incorrect or absent
Vocabulary Most if not all of the entries contain terminology equivalent to that used in the reference assessment Many of the entries contain terminology equivalent to that used in the reference assessment Some of the entries contain terminology equivalent to that used in the reference assessment Few if any entries contain terminology equivalent to that used in the reference assessment
General Impression This assessment demonstrates an understanding of most if not all of the content contained in the reference assessment This assessment demonstrates an understanding of much of the content contained in the reference assessment This assessment demonstrates an understanding of some of the content contained in the reference assessment This assessment demonstrates little if any understanding of the content contained in the reference assessment

Conclusion The conclusion is stated accurately and includes all distinguishing features The conclusion is stated accurately, but does not include all distinguishing features The conclusion is described, but not stated accurately including all distinguishing features The conclusion is incorrect, or absent
Terminology Terminology is appropriate for the learner Most of the terminology is appropriate for the learner Many of the assessment entries contain terminology appropriate for the learner, but several do not Few if any assessment entries contain terminology appropriate for the learner
General Impression The reference assessment fully justifies the conclusion and describes all case features relevant to the learner The reference assessment adequately justifies the conclusion and describes most case features relevant to the learner The reference assessment somewhat justifies the conclusion, but fails to adequately describe several case features relevant to the learner The reference assessment does not justify the conclusion and fails to describe many case features relevant to the learner
